#YOUAREWELCOMEHERE: US Universities Address Foreign Students

Recently, inspirational messages from universities and colleges across America have begun to appear on social media to support international students.
The #YouAreWelcomeHere campaign, initiated by Temple University, was organized to address the challenges of the international student community related to the new US anti-immigration policy.
To date, employees and students of 20 American educational institutions have recorded welcome videos for foreigners, and another 6 videos are in preparation. At the same time, the action found support at the state level, about 30 institutes and organizations, including EducationUSA, shared university messages and the hashtag on social media.
General welcome message
“For us, this is a way to tell students that our universities are diverse, friendly, safe, and committed to their development,” said Jessica Sandberg, International Student Enrollment Director at Hotcourses.
“More importantly, we want to demonstrate that this view is shared in our campus communities. After watching these videos, you will feel the genuine enthusiasm and emotions of the people who took part in the filming.
We really appreciate foreign students in the USA, and this action is an opportunity to express our common collective feeling. ”Exceptional support for international students
Jessica said that most US universities today offer their foreign students additional support, including migration counseling, academic support for non-native English students, social programs, and cultural integration programs.
Temple University, which educates more than 3,000 foreigners from 128 countries, has gone even further and has introduced a special placement program called Global Living Learning Community, which involves the co-residence and participation in cultural training projects of foreign and local American students.
“We also have an Office for Work with Foreign Students, which helps students acclimatize to university life in the USA by combining new foreign students with local and foreign undergraduates (Peer2Peer program),” says Jessica. “Moreover, the office is a kind of family for students, helping them to solve various medical and other issues, providing extra-campus coordinators for student placement and developing leadership qualities in foreign students.”International diversity
Temple University, like many other American universities, welcomes the cultural diversity that students from different countries bring to the campus. “In the context of rapid economic globalization, this process is also important for American students, most of whom cannot afford to study abroad before graduation,” Jessica said.

Exceptional support for international students

In a statement on the WMU website, Wolfgang Schlör, academic administrator of the Heinike Institute for Global Education, associate wrote:“The US presidential election led to the announcement of a number of statements that caused unrest among various segments of the population. Now that America is in transition, I want to assure you that the University of Western Michigan continues to be a university where every student will be accepted and supported. “I want to repeat President Dunn’s statement made after the election and emphasize that we all, at the Heinike Institute for Global Education and WMU, value diversity in our campus and community.”Take the decisive step!
Addressing students who are interested in studying abroad, but who doubt the correctness of this step, Jessica gave the following advice ...
“I always tell students that the decision to study in another country is the decision to meet with something new and unusual for myself. Ask anyone who lived abroad and he will tell you that this experience led to adventures and a new strong friendship, taught important lessons about the world around him, and helped in academic and personal development.
At the same time, frankly, most people recognize that the experience of living in another country was associated with some uncertainty and discomfort. Accepting and overcoming this discomfort is one of the most important lessons that can be learned from studying abroad. This is how you can find your place in the world and choose the direction in which you will move in the future. In addition, it gives people of different nationalities the opportunity to conduct diplomatic dialogue with each other. ”Start searching for the right training course in America right now!
