A student visa to Canada is issued to those who are going to study in this country. In Canada, it is called a “study permit”.
Those wishing to obtain a student visa to study in Canada must submit an online application on the official website of Citizen and Immigration Canada. You can also apply in the traditional way, on paper, but submitting online is much faster and easier.
You can apply for a visa after you are accepted to study at one of the accredited universities in Canada.

Visa preparation
Stage 1
After a student applies for a Canadian visa, he needs to answer a number of required questions. In particular, students are asked why they decided to study in Canada, where they come from, what they are going to do after graduation, etc. Depending on the student’s response, they tell him if he can get a student visa to Canada.
Stage 2
At the next stage, the student should also provide some information about himself to the Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs. You must report whether you had a criminal record, whether you intend to bring any of your relatives to Canada, as well as the source of funding for your future studies in the country. The answers to these questions, if necessary, can be changed further in the process of obtaining a student visa.
Stage 3
Students who completed the first two stages are given a personal reference code and a list of documents that must be collected and submitted in order to obtain a visa. It is important to note that documents can be written in English or French (the two official languages of Canada).
In addition, the student receives detailed instructions for further actions and useful links related to the visa application process.
Required documents
To obtain a student visa to Canada, Russian students must submit the following documents:
1. Completed forms IMM 1294 and IMM5645
2. A copy of a foreign passport, which expires in at least 6 months
3. Two passport format photographs
4. An official invitation from an educational institution in Canada (Letter of Acceptance)
5. Confirmation of student accommodation in Canada (Accommodation Confirmation)
6. Bank statement and / or documents confirming the availability of a stable source for financing training
7. Bank certificate confirming that the student has at least CAD10,000
8. Confirmation of payment of the fee for consideration of the application
The fee for consideration of a student application is at least CAD150.
In some cases, students are also invited to get an interview at the Canadian Consulate in Russia to obtain a visa. A notification of the need for an interview to the student is sent in advance, in electronic format.
Filing an application
By registering on the Citizen and Immigration Canada (CIC) website, the student receives individual access to the MyCIC system, through which all further actions are carried out.
The system allows you to submit documents online, pay a fee by credit card and monitor the status of your visa application. The student also receives a message about the result of the examination of the application through MyCIC.
After getting a visa
If the student’s application has been reviewed and permission to issue a visa has been issued, a letter of introduction will be sent to the student. Further, upon arrival, at the airport of Canada, the student must show this letter and his foreign passport.
It is also recommended that you bring with you originals or copies of all documents that were submitted as part of your visa application. Documents are examined right at the passport control, and a student visa is issued to an alien.
