Students, teachers and graduates of the Centennial “made green” cities around the world!

Canada and Germany lead in the ranking
Taking first place in the ranking, Montreal this year rose immediately to 6 positions - from seventh to first. And this is not the only Canadian city that has shown excellent results. This year Vancouver took 10th place, rising to three positions, while Toronto took 11th place. Ottawa (26th place) and Quebec (72nd place) also improved their results.

Germany was the only country, two cities of which also entered the Top 10: Berlin took 6th place, and Munich - 9th place, both cities also rose in the ranking. Speaking about Germany, it is worth noting that an important factor for students is the availability of residence in the country and the possibility of receiving free education.

What are the UK and US results?
Despite Brexit, the UK holds a good position in the ranking. Moreover, in the short term, Brexit even made the country more attractive to students, because the depreciation of the pound made living and studying in the UK more affordable. The Top 50 included eight British cities. London took 3rd place, Edinburgh moved to 18th place with 33 lines, and Manchester took 23rd place, rising immediately to 13 positions.

Given the success of Canada, I cannot but say about its closest neighbor - the United States. This year, most American cities lost their positions in the ranking, only Boston remained in the Top 10, which received good student reviews.

Ben Souter, head of the QS Survey, said: “I think that studying or working at US institutes today is much less attractive than six months ago.

As a result, Canadian schools have every chance of success. Perhaps so far this has not particularly affected the results, but I believe that in the next 2-3 years there will be a tendency among students to refuse to study in the USA and Great Britain, as in the main directions, in favor of studying in alternative countries with similar characteristics. First of all, with a similar language environment. ”

Students, teachers and graduates of the Centennial “made green” cities around the world!

In September, foreign students and teachers of the Centennial College network celebrated the 50th anniversary of the institution by organizing a campaign to clean garbage on quays and parks in 14 cities around the world.

In total, 15,000 people took part in the action in countries such as India, Panama, China, South Korea, Brazil, Mexico, Vietnam and Canada.

Recognition of the Prime Minister of Canada

The college’s environmental project caused a stir, in solidarity with it, the CN Tower in Toronto lit up green, and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau even wrote a letter of appreciation to the college.

“Centennial College is famous not only for innovative programs aimed at practical education, but also for outstanding educators supporting the career and personal development of students,” said Mr Trudeau.

The Prime Minister also noted that "the action was an excellent occasion to do a good deed for the general public."

Attracting prospective students

Students who started training at the Centennial only in 2017 also took part in the college project. According to Phi Ti Dai Trang from Vietnam, the action helped not only maintain the environment, but also to establish useful contacts even before starting studies.

“The Paint the Town Green promotion is the most important event I've ever taken part in,” says the student. “I think attracting young people to such environmental projects is the most effective method of preserving the marine environment.”

The Paint the Town Green project (Make Green City) was organized with the help of the Ecological Student Community (ESS) of Centennial College, founded in 2000 with the goal of introducing students to the environment.

Over the years the community has existed, more than 2,500 volunteers planted more than 8,000 trees and shrubs, installed more than 50 bird feeders, and collected and processed more than 10,000 kg of garbage.
