And ordinary walks on it can open a lot of interesting things. Excluding administrative division, the city consists of several large parts. This is Hong Kong Island itself, the Kowloon Peninsula and the New Territories. But all this is divided into districts. There are 18 districts in total, and we’ll go over them.

Where to live in Hong Kong

Hong Kong Island: Central and West

They are considered one district and are called a single phrase Central and Western. This is the oldest district of the city. Once there was a British settlement, on the basis of which the modern metropolis developed. Here, the highest cost of land and the most expensive real estate.

All this led to the fact that the territory is built up mainly with skyscrapers, since as much as possible is necessary to squeeze out of each square meter. It is in this area that the most expensive hotels, restaurants and headquarters of the world's largest corporations are located.

In the Central and Western region, there is a giant Ocean Park with an Aqua city, a zoo and a botanical garden. Here is the highest point of the island - Victoria Peak, named after the Queen of England. Views from Victoria Observation Decks, day and night, offer incredible beauty.

East area

Once upon a time was a favorite place for sailors and moths. However, now it is a place of small shops and cozy shops. There are also large shopping centers and restaurants, which makes the streets full of people.

The main point of the district is Time Square, the square where something always happens. Here is also located the tallest skyscraper of Hong Kong Island - One Island East. The 70-story building, 298 meters high, was built in 2008.

Southern District

It is famous for its ports. There are not many inhabitants. And people come here mainly to work. The area is famous for the Jumbo Kingdom Floating Restaurant, as well as Repulse Bay Beach.

Van tea

Not the safest area of the city. It occupies the central part of the island. On the one hand, Wang Chai is a prestigious and rich area. But due to the fact that it attracts tourists and expats, here they are often drunk in bars and cleaned. Apparently, the past of the district is affecting, because once Wan Chai was a red light district.

However, nothing prevents you from going here in a big company, for example, to touch the Stone of lovers.

Kowloon Peninsula: Kowloon City

It is a business and university center. Four universities are located here. There are no special attractions in the area, except for the huge Sung Wong Toi Garden park.

Samsipou and Wontaysin

Two very similar areas on the peninsula. On the one hand, it is a paradise for lovers of flea markets and all kinds of flea markets. But on the other hand, the areas are poor and dysfunctional. Therefore, if you decide to visit them, be on the alert.

Yauchimmon

Favorite place for tourists. First of all, everyone is attracted by the embankment of Victoria Bay. By the way, on this embankment you will find a monument to Bruce Lee, erected by his fans.

Kunthon

This is an industrial zone and a place of technology parks. The area is focused on work and business. But many try to settle in it in order to be closer to the duty station.

New Territories: Northern District

This is a unique combination of a modern city with its buildings and villages. Among the attractions of the area are ancient fortresses and villages, which give an idea of what architecture was centuries ago.

Other areas

In the so-called New Territories, there are several areas located both on the mainland and on small islands. All of them are developing, life is in full swing in them, so you won’t be bored. But here it is most interesting to visit not clubs, but Buddhist monasteries and temples, which amaze with their beauty.

Cooking enthusiasts travel to fish markets located in the New Territories. In the markets you can buy octopuses, moray eels and other marine exoticism.

And finally, New Territories are famous for their reserve with rare species of birds. Of course, you can not visit Disneyland on the island of Lantau. Well, and for those who can’t imagine their life without a beach holiday, there is a direct road to local beaches.

Hong Kong is a green city. Most of its area is occupied by parks and reserves. So you can not only walk through the stone jungle, which, of course, are impressive, but also admire the local nature.
