University Scholarships
Unfortunately, the Hong Kong government does not provide financial assistance to students. Therefore, most scholarships here are issued directly by universities and, almost always, on the basis of academic performance. Information on available scholarships can be found on the websites of Hong Kong universities or on our website.
At a number of universities, such as the City University of Hong Kong, students enrolled in their first year of undergraduate studies are automatically considered applicants for scholarships.
Thus, the state seeks to attract the most successful students to study at its universities. However, this technique is not common in all educational institutions, so it is better to learn information about financial assistance to students in advance.
State external scholarship sources
Private organizations from around the world today cooperate with universities in Hong Kong and offer specific financing schemes for students of certain nationalities.
For example, New Zealand Consulate-General Hong Kong provides scholarships for New Zealand students studying at specific universities in Hong Kong.
Scholarships of this type are usually provided in a fairly clear framework, to receive them you must either belong to a specific nationality, or study in a specific field, or have certain academic or other merits.
Hong Kong organizations also provide some scholarships for international students. In most cases, they are available to those who are trained in the field in which the sponsoring organization operates.
