This is the most common type of work visa issued to foreigners who have signed a contract with a Malaysian company for a period of at least 2 years with a salary of MYR5,000 per year. The greatest chances for obtaining this visa are from experienced workers, qualified professionals and managers. In other words, the candidate should possess all possible advantages compared to the majority of local workers who can get the same position.


It is customary to divide all candidates for this visa into three categories: key employees, middle managers and technical workers. Depending on a particular category, the degree of importance of the employee for the development of the state and various industries is assessed, as well as an annual income tax. This type of visa can be obtained for a period of 3 years.


Temporary Employment Pass


This type of visa is issued to foreigners who have signed a work contract with a Malaysian company for a period of less than 2 years with a salary of up to MYR5,000 per year. Workers in the field of production, plantation and agricultural work, services and construction aged 18 to 45 years can get such a visa for up to 5 years.


There are serious requirements for holders of this type of visa. In particular, it is necessary to annually confirm the place of work and inform the department of all changes occurring in professional and personal life.


Visitor’s Pass (Professional)


This visa is issued to qualified foreign professionals working for foreign companies or planning to stay in Malaysia for up to 12 months. This type of visa is available for such specialties as a lecturer, teacher, researcher, technical consultant, service expert, independent auditor.


How to apply for a work visa?


After you find an employer in Malaysia who is ready to accept you for this or that position, you will need to enter the country without a visa (option for a tourist stay). Arriving in Malaysia, you will need to deal directly with a work visa.


Getting a work visa in Malaysia is quite simple. The employer deals with all visa issues, he submits your documents, pays the visa fee and incurs additional costs for applying for a visa.


To obtain a work visa, the following documents must be provided:


1. Foreign passport


2. Signed work contract


3. 3 color or black-and-white photographs of 3 × 4 cm format


4. Filled out form DP11
