A graduate from Russia became the winner of the International Olympiad in Economics

The Russians became bronze medalists in the team competition of the International Olympiad for Schoolchildren in Economics, which took place from September 7 to 13 in an online format. In the individual standings, Russian schoolchildren won three gold medals and two bronze medals.

High school student Alexander Lutsenko, who entered the HSE-NES joint bachelor's program in economics, became the absolute winner of the Olympiad. He scored 175 points out of 200 and won by nine points from second place.

The Olympiad was attended by 29 teams from 29 countries. Gold in the team competition went to the team from Brazil, silver to the participants from Indonesia.

The competition consisted of three stages: games on financial literacy in an online simulator, solving problems in economics and presenting a solution to a business case. This year the topic of the business case was the pricing of the coronavirus vaccine.
